How to change PhD and postdoc training

The number of PhDs awarded is ever-increasing and more and more trainees are in postdoc positions. At the same time, faculty positions (and those in industry, for that matter) are not increasing at the same rate, exposing the current way of academic training to increased scrutiny. Luckily, there are plenty of ideas of how to bring about some much-needed change in terms of training (https://elifesciences.org/articles/01139 ).
